Third Grade

Third Grade Third grade will be a growing year for you and your child. This is the time your child will begin to gain independence and begin to take ownership of their learning. Their academic skills will continue to become strengthened, in order to meet essential grade level expectations as well as the rigorous demands of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). Third grade students will learn many skills such as, compare and contrast, main idea, plot development, and cause and effect through the use of graphic organizer, as well as small group instruction. Third grade will also be the first year that all students will be required to submit an individual Science Fair project. Teachers and students, along with parents will help guide the students through the steps of the scientific process.

Building on previous concepts in the areas of number sense, measurement, geometry, algebraic thinking and data analysis, third grade students will gain a deeper understanding of mathematics and its role in the “real world”. The third grade team looks forward to working together with you to make this a most exhilarating and rewarding school year for everyone. Remember, parental involvement is a key component. Consider it a compliment when your children and/or their teachers ask for your help.
