Exceptional Student Education Exceptional Student Education (ESE) is a school-wide program designed to provide assistance to students with learning disabilities. The program consists of three educational models. ESE students in kindergarten and first grade receive support services in a Resource Model. In this small group setting, the low pupil to teacher ratio allows for individual needs and learning styles to be accommodated. The resource program consists of two classes: morning resource for Reading and Language Arts, and afternoon resource for Math. The focus of the resource model is to promote active, hands on learning in order to develop a strong educational foundation in primary academic concepts. ESE students in second through fifth grade receive support services in an Inclusion Model. In an inclusion classroom, the ESE and general education teachers co-teach the Reading/Language Arts and Math schedule blocks.

The focus in this setting is to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to assist the students in accessing their education in the least restrictive environment. A third program model, Consultation, is designed to assist students in exiting from the ESE program, as well as to ease the transition of mainstreaming into general education. Student progress in academic subjects continues to be monitored on a weekly or monthly basis. Accommodations and interventions continue to be provided to the students as needed.
